DIY Fathers Day Gift

I always struggle with ideas for Fathers Day.  Then I saw something the other day and having told Amelie about it we decided to make our own SUPERDAD sock packaging.

You will need:

One pair of superhero socks - we brought ours in Sainsburys for £3
A4 printer
A4 sheet of paper
A small amount of glue, sellotape or double sided tape.
Scissors.

  • First of all you need to download my Fathers Day Sock Template from here and print it off
  • Carefully cut out the template
  • Remove the original packaging from the socks.  I carefully removed the cardboard packaging but left the little plastic tags holding the socks together
  • Carefully fold the new sock wrapper around the center of the socks and glue or stick it in place.
Amelie was really pleased with her finished Fathers Day gift.

Things I have learnt this week.

We are all in wedding mode ready for my sisters wedding on Saturday.  The girls are bridesmaids and Amelie especially is very excited.  My Mum is in a state of pre-wedding panic, combined with my Father-in-law's birthday I always knew that this week would be a bit manic.  However here are a few things I have learnt this week.
  • Never try and plan too far in advance - especially when there are children and husbands involved.  A long overdue coffee with friends had to be cancelled due to sick children.  A manicure and pedicure I booked months ago ready for the wedding had to be cancelled as it's my Father-in-laws birthday and Mike failed to correct me on the dates.  Instead I am now catering for 6!  Never fear I checked the wine supplies and made sure I brought extra!
  • A while back we convinced ourselves we could become a one car family.  But living out in the sticks on the coast where public infrastructure is very sporadic and you need a car to go anywhere we have come to realise that we do indeed need two cars.  I have learnt this week that I don't care whether my husband buys an Audi, a BMW, a Mercedes, a VW Golf, a Passat, a VW Touran, a Skoda Ocktavia or anything else come to think of it (apart from a Mini Convertible for me) as long as he buys something and stops driving me crazy about the whole thing.  (All this talk of cars has made me hit my wine supply most evenings this week!)
  • This week I also taught myself a new hobby.  I am currently coveting a crochet bag.  I keep seeing them everywhere. After a bit of an internet search I came across a cute tapestry purse pattern over on My Poppet.  After a few mistakes with my counting I finally made myself a little tapestry crochet Coin Purse.  I think I am a way off making a bag but I am pleased with my first attempt.

Some weeks things don't go to plan and as frustrating as it is it is priceless watching my girls squealing in delight whilst playing hide and seek.

Red Lipsticks

About a year ago after a trip to the Bobbi Brown counter I discovered that I really enjoy wearing red lipstick.  I had tried lipsticks in the past but had always gone for pale colours or really dark colours neither of which really suited me.  They always cost me a fortune and left me feeling really self conscious and guilty everytime I looked in my makeup bag.  Wearing red makes me feel empowered and confident and more importantly I just love wearing it.  Over the last year I have become a little obsessed with the ongoing search for the perfect red lipstick and more recently I have started to move towards the burnt orange.  I think its a bit like nail colour, when you find a colour that you like there is just no going back.
Here is some of my growing collection.

Unfortunately whilst I like wearing red lipstick it also appears that my cheeky little monkey also likes wearing it.  In the big scheme of things I think this is all rather amusing, however I wish she had chosen one of the cheaper lipsticks or one I didn't like.  Once is bad enough but seriously in the space of 24 hours I caught her with my lipsticks and make up at least three times.  She has started very quietly carrying her little chair into my bedroom and climbing onto my dressing table.  I thought she was being a little quiet.

Look at that cheeky face:  She had a lovely time!

Our Week.

I love it when Amelie is at home with us during the school holidays.  Gone is the manic morning rush of school uniforms, packed lunches, snack boxes and reading, replaced with bouncing on the trampoline, day trips out, running along the seafront and playmobil campsites (although I am getting a bit fed up of tripping over the playmobil).

Now we are over the end of term exhaustion there seems to be less fighting and general co-operation.  Amelie has developed her own little dress sense which despite being a bit crazy I absolutely love it.  I appear to have lost my running headband.

The other afternoon Harriet was having an afternoon nap and I stood in the kitchen watching Amelie chatting away to one of her little imaginary friends on her plastic iphone.  It was so cute to watch and a little heart wrenching.   She is growing up so fast.  I want the clock to stop, to keep these memories forever.  Bless her in the last month she has grown an inch!  Suddenly none of her clothes fit her and we have had to go shopping.

Hop little Bunny Hop

I thought I would have a quick catch up on our busy family weekend.  Apart from the copious amounts of sweets and chocolate we seem to have received, this weekend has whizzed by.

  • Good Friday having popped into town we had a lovely family lunch at Granny and Grampy's.  (I am not at all jealous of Mikes brother and family who are now sitting in the sunnier climes of Goa.)
  • We went on a very muddy Easter Egg hunt around our village with my sister and her boys.  Organised by the little pre-school which has an intake of 30 per day about 400+ children turned up - each year it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
  • We went scooting on Easter Sunday along the seafront before heading to my Mums for a family dinner.  I am seriously jealous of my brother who is heading off today for a three week trip to the Cayman Islands to see our cousins.
  • My mum gave the kids these fantastic glasses which made them all look really cute.  They had yet more chocolate and my Mum put together a little egg hunt around the garden.
  • Michael had his first sail of the season albeit a bit chilly.
  • The kids love cheering him on with a spot of stone throwing and treasure hunting.  Amelie is so cute when she is watching her Daddy sailing - she always thinks he is winning.  Harriet must have asked me a thousand times where Daddy?
  • Any trip to the beach results in me returning pockets laden with stones.
  • Today we are having a quiet catch up.  I really need to sort the house out and Mike wants to sort his fence out.
I have seen so many amazing Easter photos over on Instagram.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
